Another great day of riding, any day on the bike is a great day (almost, there are some exceptions) We had a relatively flat and no wind day into Abilene, KS. There really wasn’t a lot to see on the way, just small rolling hills, and green pastures. Here are a couple of pictures of Abilene. KS.
We have been riding for 9 straight days, so we have a rest day tomorrow before we head off to Topeka, 106 miles away on Wednesday. I cleaned my bike this afternoon, and Lynn is arriving later to spend a couple of days with me. I think when she saw Abilene on the schedule, she was thinking of TX and not KS. There isn’t much here, and most restaurants are closed on Mondays. We are going to go out to dinner with a bunch of my friends tonight, as we have a car, and those are in high demand around here. I will do some laundry tomorrow am, and Lynn is bringing a bunch of new/different clothes for me to wear the rest of the trip, as I am tired of the ones I have been wearing for 3 weeks.
The Eisenhower Presidential Library is in Abilene, KS.
Here is a picture of one of my friends, Greg P. From Tulsa. Greg is a great guy, and unfortunately today was his last day riding. He only joined us for a week and a half to “test the waters” of the tour. He is thinking of doing it with a friend next year, as he just retired early and his friend is retiring next year. He also has a Crit race this weekend. It is basically an all out ride as hard as you can for 35 minutes, and the winner goes the farthest. I wish him the best and hope he does well and look forward to our continued friendship.
Here is the map for today, a little east ( 20 or so miles ) and then 40ish miles north.
Here is the new wind info chart. What is interesting is that it shows we had an average wind speed of 7 mph, and a headwind 38% of the time. It sure didn’t feel like that, especially after a couple of days ago when it was so windy.
We had a great pace today averaging 19.1 mph, which is actually a little slower than what we were doing, as my average slows down the last 2 miles or so in town, and it brings the average down.
Thank you for following along with me on this journey, and if you can please make a donation to the Children's Hospital below. 100% of your funds go to the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
