Another nice day. We headed to Springfield, IL and it was overcast the majority of the day, which kept the temperatures down, nice on a long day. Above you can see the overcast, and the fields of corn, which were very plentiful today, and the last few days. Once we got closer to the middle of the ride today the terrain flattened out, see the red part of the map below.
We did have a headwind as well although it wasn’t that strong. The average was around 8 mph, but we had it for 6% of the time.
There was a scale this am near the check out / route rap and I weighed myself. After all of the comments I was getting, I thought that I had lost a lot of weight. Nope, just 5 lbs. Must be moving it around??
Here is a picture from the other day that Tom took of me coming into a SAG.
We are in the middle of Illinois.
Not a bad average speed with the wind and distance today.
I did have another flat today, I believe it was a pinch flat, although I had a small gash on the outside of my sidewall it didn’t go all of the way through the rubber. We booted the tire anyway, actually Cathy S. Did, she’s the tire expert. She said we should be safe, so we did. Nice to have friends on the ride, we have helped each other out on many different days when the other needs some support. It makes the journey a lot easier knowing that you have someone there to help in a time of need. Thanks Cathy!
One of my friends from Chicago arrived tonight, and he ( Dave T. ) is going to ride with us tomorrow. I am really looking forward to our ride, as we have been planning on riding together for a long time and never have. We were supposed to have ridden together this past weekend for a 200 mile ride called The Tour of the Mississippi River Valley, and I had to cancel because of this cross country journey. So Dave drove down this evening with some family, and he is going to ride the 87 miles with us tomorrow, and his wife is picking him up in Champaign tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you for following along with me on this journey, and if you can please make a donation to the Children's Hospital below. 100% of your funds go to the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

As a non-profit institution, the Children's Hospital provides care to the children who come through its' doors regardless of the family's ability to pay. Caring support from the community allows this level of service to continue.
