Tour de USA | Stage 35 Indianapolis 58 miles

A relatively easy day, just 58 miles into downtown Indianapolis on a beautiful day with low humidity again.  It really is amazing how much the heat and humidity play into whether or not the ride is hard or not.  We even had a headwind most of the ride (88%), although it was very slight at a little less than 5 mph.

We are now into Indy, and only 2 weeks until we ride our bikes the last 17 miles to Revere Beach in Boston, that is truly amazing to me!

On the way into Indy we passed the Women’s prison and decided to leave Cathy there, she was none too happy.

I have been to Indianapolis before, but never on a bike, and I must give them a lot of credit, they have a great bikeable city.  There were great bike trails into the city, including downtown, this is one below.  And once we were in downtown there were a lot of bike lanes that were protected as well.  Nashville should come here and check it out, both the 3-4 lanes of car traffic, the sidewalks with people, outdoor patio seating, AND protected bike lanes.  My only complaint, and it’s a small one is the number of pedestrians walking in the bike lane.  I can get over that, if I had bike lanes into DT Nashville.

This is a bridge over the river into DT Indy with artwork, 2 lanes, greenway, room for walkers, runners, and bikes.  Lucas Oil Stadium is the building off in the distance on the right, the Colts play there.

Downtown artwork along the “canal” downtown.  It had a similar vibe to San Antonio, in that the canal was man made, but everyone is out walking along it.  You can rent bikes, and paddle boats.  There are not the bars and restaurants along it like in San Antonio, and much more bike friendly.

Here is the short map for today.

Thank you for following along with me on this journey, and if you can please make a donation to the Children's Hospital below.  100% of your funds go to the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

As a non-profit institution, the Children's Hospital provides care to the children who come through its' doors regardless of the family's ability to pay.  Caring support from the community allows this level of service to continue.
